Out of sight out of mind. That’s the reason powder rooms are often one of the most lackluster rooms in a home. Homeowners may rarely use the powder room, but that’s not the case for their guests.

Is it time to update your powder room? Here are three incredible powder rooms updates to whet your appetite. These gorgeous recent renos are the bronze, silver and gold winning designs from the Canadian Decorators’ Association’s 2017 Decorating & Design Competition.

Powderroom OrganicHarmony

Project: Organic harmony
Year: 2016
Award: Bronze - Decorating & Design Competition
Firm: Kimaya Designs

Earthy meets chic, this powder room is packed with thoughtful design details. There is a wonderful juxtaposition between the yin yang wading pool vanity sink and waterfall faucet, and the geometric framed mirror and lights. Behind the toilet, a wall of handmade Italian tiles laid in a random pattern has an organic feel. The results: a room with timeless elegance—precisely what the homeowner wanted.

“Big impact in a small space–that’s what a powder room has to radiate. Evoke a feeling of exuberance to our friends and family who visit our home, making them feel special and ‘wowed’ in a personal space.” - Geeta Kewalramani

Powderroom ShadesofGrey

Project: Shades of grey
Year: 2016
Award: Silver - Decorating & Design Competition
Firm: Rebecca Decorates

In tthis reno, colour was maximized to make the small space feel larger and impressive. The palette was driven by silver tones in the rich walnut flooring, which was run into the room from the hallways to create a seamless transition. Soft grey paint blurs lines and complements the wall of patchwork tile, which adds vintage charm. The grey toilet, heavy stone sink and black knobs tie the design together.

“The limited size of a powder room can make expanding visual space while maintaining an intimate feel, both a challenge and a priority.” - Rebecca Lees

Powderroom Blue

Project: Blue powder room
Year: 2016
Award: Gold - Decorating & Design Competition
Firm: Evelyn Eshun Design Inc.

This dramatic design plays on ceiling height and has a sophisticated feel. To accentuate the wonderful height of this tiny room, the designer sourced a mirror that stretches from counter to the underside of the crown. The acrylic and chrome sconces coordinate with the cabinet pull, adding a touch of luxury. Decadent items such as a towel warmer, walnut wood veneer and Italian-made tiles make this a design that will endure time.

“The powder room is a small room in the home and also the only space where your guests get to be on their own. I believe that it should be dramatic, full of personality and design details.” - Evelyn Eshun
